The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, closed the session of Monday 29 October 2012 at 5,136.17 points against 5,172.01 points, last Monday. The All-share index, SEMDEX, finished at 1,682.84 points. The SEM-7 index, which comprises the seven largest and most liquid stocks, ended at 324.92 points. At market close on Monday, market capitalisation reached Rs 166.42 billion.

Total turnover amounted to Rs 162 million during the week under review. Shares of The Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd (MCB), State Bank of Mauritius Ltd (SBM), New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMHL), Phoenix Beverages Ltd (PBL) and Alteo Ltd were exchanged for a total value of Rs 90.1 million, Rs 22.1 million, Rs 16 million, Rs 10.4 million and Rs 3.8 million, respectively, during this time frame. The shares of MCB, SBM, NMHL, PBL and Alteo closed at Rs 161, Rs 83, Rs 54.50, Rs 203 and Rs 28.50, respectively, on Monday 29 October 2012.

An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 41 stocks figuring on the Official List, 6 moved up during the last seven days, 19 remained stable and 16 went down. The best performing stocks for the week were: National Investment Trust Ltd (+3.18%), ENL Land Ltd (+2.24%), Alteo Ltd (+1.79%), Sun Resorts Ltd (+1.10%) and Mauritius Union Assurance Ltd (+0.83%). The worst performers were: Belle Mare Holding Co Ltd (-5%), Caudan Development Ltd (-4.35%), POLICY Ltd (-3.64%), New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (-3.54%) and Lux Island Resorts Ltd (-3.23%).

On the Development & Enterprise Market (DEM), at market close on Monday, the two indices, the DEMEX and the DEMTRI, closed at 142.40 points and 166.13 points, respectively. Market capitalization stood at Rs 42.64 billion. A total volume of 1.77 million shares for a total value of Rs 17.02 million has been traded during the week under review. The ten best performers in terms of annualised total returns since the beginning of 2012 are: Margarine Industries Ltd, Union Flacq Ltd, Ciel Textile Ltd, Livestock Feed Ltd (O), Associated Commercial, Ascencia Ltd, Les Moulins de la Concorde Ltée (O), FIDES, ABC Motors Co Ltd and Mauritius Secondary Industries Ltd. The total return varies from 3.82% to 302.78%. On the international front, financial markets ended the week on a negative note. For the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the NASDAQ composite index went down 1.77 per cent and 0.59 per cent, respectively. In Europe, Germany’s DAX, Britain’s FTSE and France CAC 40 lost 2.02 per cent, 1.52 per cent and 1.98 per cent during the week.
